Advanced Muscle Palpatation
Many people believe that all chiropractors feel the position of the bones of the spine in order to determine where a vertebral subluxation is present. This is not entirely true. Dr. Rhett utilizes a method of analysis called Advanced Muscle Palpation (AMP). As the name suggests, this analysis requires that the muscles not bones are palpated in order to determine where an adjustment should occur. The chiropractor will actually feel the muscles that are attached to the bones of the spine to accomplish this. What he is feeling for is what is entitled a working muscle. The muscle is working under the control of the Innate Intelligence of the body to pull the bone back to its proper position with the bone above and the bone below. However, the muscle does not have enough energy at this time to accomplish the adjustment. This is where the chiropractor comes in. He will deliver a gentle force into the spine that the body will use to correct the vertebral subluxation. Once the vertebral subluxation is corrected the muscle tone will change immediately. This immediate change is what the chiropractor is looking for to be sure that an adjustment has, in fact taken place.

This method works with the body as much as possible. While other methods of analysis may look at an x-ray or utilize another tool in order to determine in what direction a bone of the spine should move, AMP reads the body and allows the chiropractor to locate the area(s) of the spine that it are already attempting to perform an adjustment. As you could imagine, there will never be a force put into a region of the spine where the body is not already trying to correct a vertebral subluxation. In essence, the major screening tool that is utilized is the Innate Intelligence of the body. Not too bad of a source to listen to! Since this is the case, AMP is generally thought of as one of the safest methods of analysis used in chiropractic today.
