Frequently Asked Questions
1. Just exactly what conditions or diseases can a chiropractor cure?
A: No doctor, whether it is a physician, chiropractor, osteopath, etc. has ever cured anything. Only the Innate Intelligence of your body can provide healing within the body. Chiropractors work with the body’s Innate Intelligence to make sure that your body is performing up to your potential for as much of the time as possible. In other words, chiropractors make sure that the Innate Intelligence of your body is able to fully express itself. When this occurs, your body will perform better and there are many things that will improve including various symptoms, diseases and conditions. However there are also numerous other things that tend to improve such as quality of sleep, immune system function, energy levels, concentration and memory and even your ability to earn an income! You see, when you are performing up to your potential your entire life is better!

2. What is a family maintenance program?
A: A family maintenance program is a system provided by a chiropractor that allows an entire family to receive the chiropractic care that they need at an affordable price. This allows the family the opportunity to reap the benefits of chiropractic care for the rest of their lives. This program is in place so that everyone is able to afford quality chiropractic care for as long as possible.

3. Will regular visits to the chiropractor actually help prevent certain illness?
A: Potentially, but that is no reason to seek chiropractic care. Chiropractic care is about restoring proper function to the nerve system so that the individual can perform up to their potential for as much of their life as possible. One of the effects of chiropractic care is an increased functioning immune system. This could prevent a certain illness from occurring. While this may occur occasionally it is typically the exception and not the rule. People should receive regular chiropractic care so that they can experience a better life – not so that they will hopefully avoid a particular disease or illness.

4. Is it true that once you start going to a chiropractor you have to go forever?
A: Yes, if you are smart! Actually, you can discontinue chiropractic care at any time, however I couldn’t imagine why you would want to. Why would you want to discontinue something that improves not only your health but your life? If you began to eat healthy and noticed all of the positive changes that occurred in your life would you go back to eating poorly? What about if you started a regular exercise program and saw the amazing benefit that it has, would you immediately stop? The same is true with chiropractic care. Once you see the benefit that you can receive under care, why would you want to stop?

5. Just how safe is Chiropractic? What are the risks and dangers?
A: Chiropractic is extremely safe. Since the method of analysis that is used at Ruehle Family Chiropractic relies on the body signaling where an adjustment should take place, any risk that could be associated with receiving care drops significantly. Statistically speaking, the risks are less than one in one million. This is less than the odds of being struck by lightning! When you look at the big picture, the risk of living a life with vertebral subluxation that is hindering your performance is much more risky and dangerous than receiving chiropractic care.

6. Why is it that some chiropractors talk a lot about nutrition, rest, exercise, etc and others don’t even mention them?
A: Every chiropractor can choose what he or she would like to focus on within the office. Some will choose to look into the person’s nutritional status and attempt to improve it. Others may recommend various exercises or possibly even a different mattress or pillow. Yet others will provide various physiotherapies. Since it is possible to choose where your focus rests, we at Ruehle Family Chiropractic have chosen to focus strictly on chiropractic. This is done because the chiropractic adjustment has such a profound impact on people’s lives. This is not saying that diet, exercise, rest, etc. do not have beneficial effects, they do, however there are other professions that provide these services and, quite frankly, they have more extensive training. At Ruehle Family Chiropractic we focus on the area where we can have the greatest impact on your health and your life.

7. When a chiropractor corrects a vertebral subluxation, how come it doesn’t stay corrected but seems to return periodically?
A: There are many things that we do throughout our lives that cause vertebral subluxations. The way we lift heavy boxes, the way we sleep, the way we sit at our desk, etc. are all things that contribute to vertebral subluxations. The chiropractor is an expert in locating these vertebral subluxations and performing an adjustment. If the individual were to continue lying on the table following the adjustment it is likely that the subluxation would not recur, however this isn’t very practical. We choose to continue to live active lives. Since we choose this option, vertebral subluxations will continue to occur. The best thing you can do is to have your spine checked on a regular basis so that your body can perform up to its potential for as much of life as possible.

8. Will I need a ton of unnecessary and expensive procedures?
A: The only procedures that are done at Ruehle Family Chiropractic are those that are necessary for us to locate and correct vertebral subluxations. As a result, expenses and extra procedures are kept to a minimum. Occasionally, there may be a need for imaging or a special test to be performed prior to undergoing chiropractic care if that is the case the office member will be informed of the need and the proper procedures will be done prior to receiving care. For more information on this topic please see the x-ray portion of the website.

9. Do you do talks about Chiropractic to clubs and organizations?
A: Of course! I have explained chiropractic in front of various crowds within the Siouxland area as well as in other states throughout the Midwest. The talks that are given are always lively and are sure to spark a little curiosity as well as present a different way of looking at common issues. If you would like to have Dr. Rhett speak at your next event or gathering please contact the office at (712) 224-3949 or send us a quick message by following the link on the contact us tab.

10. Is it true that getting adjusted to often can cause loose joints?
A: No. There are quite a few myths around about chiropractic. If you get adjusted too often it can cause loose joints, getting adjusted can cause arthritis, etc. These are all false. The truth is, your body adjusts itself numerous times throughout the day. Once a vertebral subluxation occurs, your body will use its muscles to correct it. However, there are occasions where the body is unable to correct a vertebral subluxation. Possibly there isn’t enough energy in the body to correct it or possibly the subluxation is reducing the nerve supply to the very same muscles that are needed to correct the problem! Whatever the case, a chiropractor is trained when a body needs an adjustment and helps to facilitate the correction of the vertebral subluxation.
